A Nairobi court has directed the main suspect in the Ksh 1 billion shillings gold scam to appear in court for plea-taking on October 18, 2023.

Joseph Waswa was expected in court on Monday after the high court declined to stop his prosecution.

Through his lawyer, Waswa told magistrate Esther Kimilu that he was unwell and asked the court to grant him 60 days to recuperate.

“Your honour we have supplied medical documents to court indicating our client is unwell and requires 60 days to recover,”court papers read in part.

However the prosecution objected to the application saying 60 days are unreasonable.

Kimilu denied the 60-day application and ordered Waswa to appear in court on the 18th of this month to answer the criminal charges.

“I’ve considered the submissions, he underwent a surgery…… however the application to 60 days lacks merit…..he should present himself on 18 of this month for plea taking,” Magistrate Esther Kimilu ordered.
