Residents of Mathangauta sub-location in Mwea, Kirinyaga county are in shock after a gunmen shot dead a prominent businessman who operates a wholesale shop at Ngurubani town.

Francis Mwangi Gachui, 50, was shot three times 50 metres from his homestead while driving his saloon car with his wife and two of his workers, according to Mwea-east Sub-county police commander James Mutua.

Mutua stated that the trader was rushed to Kimbimbi sub-county by police officers and residents but died as he was being transported by ambulance to Kerugoya referral hospital.

Mwangi was just metres from his homestead after closing his business in Ngurubani, according to Red Soil residents led by Samuel Kiama, when he was shot.

‘We responded to the gunshots, but before he died, he told us they were two people, one of them was in a police uniform,” Samuel Kiama told Inooro TV.

Residents said Mwangi was a very good person and wondered who killed him and why

“We suspect it is a business rivalry because they stole nothing and this is the second incident as the first incident they stole money in his wholesale shop at Ngurubani. ‘ Kiama added.
