Kaminjeiwa village residents in Kericho County have protested after the brutal murder of 18-year-old Kefa Kipkirui, a Form Four student at Kaminjeiwa Secondary School.
His body was discovered near Kipteran River, more than 10 kilometres from his home, under mysterious circumstances.
Despite incessant calls for investigations and answers, the community accuse the police of nonchalance on the issue, prompting community-wide protests to compel authorities to respond.
“Tunataka haki itendeke kwa sababu huyu mtoto alikua wa shule. Tunataka serikali ije ifanye upelelezi wa kweli,” said a resident Willy Cheruiyot
A family member Winnu Koskei added, “As you can see, the boy comes from a poor family background and the mother cannot even push for investigations. We were looking up to Kefa to lead the family in future.”
Kaminjeiwa Secondary School Deputy Principal Joel Rono referred to the deceased student as a hardworking and disciplined boy.
“Kefa was very disciplined, and we have never addressed any disciplinary case against him while he was in school, and he was also a very hardworking boy,” Rono said.
