The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a vacancy for the position of Principal Secretary (PS), and qualified Kenyans are encouraged to apply.

According to PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri, applications must be received by December 4, 2024, via manual delivery, online submission, or postal mail.

In a statement, the PSC stated, “Following various reassignments within the senior ranks of the Executive, a vacancy has arisen among the ranks of Principal Secretaries.”

The Principal Secretary will serve as the State Department’s Accounting and Authorised Officer.

Their responsibilities will include enacting government policies, strategic plans, and intergovernmental programmes and projects.

They will also be in charge of creating and implementing effective performance management systems, ensuring the efficient use of financial, human, and other resources, and submitting statutory reports as needed.

In addition, they will be responsible for promoting the constitutional values and principles outlined in Articles 10 and 232 in the State Department’s operations.

To be considered for the position, candidates must meet certain qualifications.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a degree from a Kenyan-recognized university and at least ten years of relevant professional experience, five of which must have been in a leadership or top management role in either the public or private sectors.

They should also have a general understanding of the organisation and functions of government, an understanding of national goals, policies, and developmental objectives, and leadership and management skills, including expertise in financial and strategic people management.

Furthermore, applicants must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution, which focusses on leadership and integrity.

Applicants for the position must submit a detailed curriculum vitae, as well as copies of academic and professional certificates, transcripts, testimonials, and other supporting documents.

A valid national identification card or passport is also required. Applications must be clearly marked “Application for the Position of Principal Secretary” and may be submitted in one of three ways.

Manual applications should be handed in to the Secretary/CEO’s office on the 4th floor of Commission House, off Harambee Avenue, while online applications must include scanned documents in PDF format and be emailed to pr********************@**************go.ke.

Postal applications should be addressed to the Secretary/CEO of the Public Service Commission at Commission House, P.O. Box 30095-00100, Nairobi.

The PSC has emphasised its commitment to transparency and fairness in the recruitment process, encouraging all qualified Kenyans to apply.
