Police and health officials are investigating a suspected case of food poisoning at a primary school in Garissa County.

One pupil died while three teachers are admitted to hospital following the incident that was reported at Durte primary school on June 17.

A 33-year-old female teacher was first found lying unconscious in her house within the school staff quarters.

The school deputy headteacher who had been informed of the incident told police he looked for a car and rushed her to a hospital in the area.

And on coming back to the school, he found two more teachers and a pupil also lying unconscious.

The child belonged to the first teacher who was found unconscious in her house and taken to hospital.

They were all rushed to Dertu dispensary, where the child passed on while undergoing treatment, police said.
