Kenyan rap Khaligraph Jones, born Brian Ouko Omollo, hit a major roadblock in March when his much-anticipated Instagram Live session with American rap icon Rick Ross failed to materialise.
The ‘Yego’ hitmaker took to social media to vent his frustration, attributing the cancellation to jealousy and envy from some of his fans.
According to Khaligraph, his Instagram account was reported for an unspecified violation, resulting in a shadow ban that lasted three months.
This unexpected turn of events caused the much-anticipated session with Rick Ross to be cancelled.
“Today I experienced the most intense highest level of jealousy,” Khaligraph lamented on Instagram.
In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Khaligraph delved into the incident, expressing his disappointment but also recognising the potential for growth and new opportunities that came from the challenge.
“People reported my account and it was shadow banned for three months. I think there is a community of haters who reported my account. There was a time when my page was only visible to people who followed me. My information is not recommended to people. I think it was just haters in the industry. I am a person who trusts God, so when some of these things happen, it becomes a blessing,” Khaligraph said.
As for Rick Ross, Khaligraph had nothing but admiration for the American rapper, describing him as a boss and a role model.
“Rick Ross is a boss and a person everyone should learn from. He is no longer living off music. He is at his level and that is something I am learning from him. I don’t want to get to a point in my life where Khaligraph is trending because he put out a song. That could lead to me chasing influence for people to see me. When you get to a level where you don’t need clout to move, that’s what we call longevity,” he explained.
Despite the setback, Khaligraph revealed that his collaboration with Rick Ross is still on track, with the American rapper’s team approaching him about the project.
“There is a big project coming up. It is a big project and that is why his team reached out to me. I didn’t go looking for them. I was sought after. It is much better that way. At this point in my career, God is allowing things to just flow,” Khaligraph announced.
In a message to his fans, Khaligraph urged them to continue supporting him while stressing the importance of unity and wise decision making.
“Keep supporting the OG and let us reduce our egos. Let us not make stupid decisions that will cost us our lives,” he advised.
