Gender Cabinet Secretary nominee Stella Soi Lang’at highlighted her 29 years of experience, emphasizing her resilience and capability to work in the Ministry of Gender. Addressing the Committee on Appointments, Lang’at outlined her extensive career in public administration, having worked in various ministries and served the central government.
Her roles have included positions in the State Department of Public Service and the Labour Department, and she was instrumental in establishing the State Department of Gender in 2004. Lang’at has received capacity-building training in mediation, conflict management, and peacebuilding.
Her regional experience spans Nyanza, Eastern, and South Rift Valley. Additionally, while working at the Office of the Attorney General, she contributed to setting up a witness protection agency, a unique institution in Eastern Central Africa.
“I want to believe that gave me an opportunity to interact with issues of Gender-Based Violence and the need to protect witnesses for purposes of ensuring that there is success in prosecution and to strengthen the administrative Justice system,” she said.
Lang’at was part of a team setting up county governments and became the first interim county secretary for the Narok County Government.
She also participated in issues of ensuring that girls are protected from repugnant cultural practices while serving in the county government of Bomet.
“Those experiences have assisted me in building resilience and also interacting with the environment where GBV is rampant and where interventions are required to strengthen the fight against GBV,” she said.
She said her experience in field administration has assisted her in building resilience, courage and sacrifice, which are the pertinence requirements for leadership in the Ministry of Gender.
