Police in Ugenya Sub-county are investigating an incident where members of the public stormed Sihayi police post then proceeded to burn a house in the village following the suspected murder of a man.

32-year-old Chris Olunga was allegedly stabbed to death at a liquor joint in Sihayi trading centre following a disagreement between him and one of his friends with whom they were drinking.

According to the Assistant Chief of Ligala sub-location Chrispine Onyango, the body of the deceased was found while lying on a footpath near the liquor joint after the alleged murder.

He stated that the body was then moved to a private mortuary in Sega town, an issue that allegedly irked the members of the public. They demanded to know the circumstances under which the man was murdered and why the police were in a rushed to move the body to the mortuary without even informing the relatives.

The administrator stated that this is what prompted them to storm the police station to demand answers before they proceeded to the home of the suspected killer and torched his house then returned to the trading center where they also torched part of the liquor joint.

While confirming the incident, Onyango stated however that the blood baying members of the public did not find the suspect at home since he had earlier surrendered himself to the police at Sihayi police post and by that time had already been taken and locked up at Ukwala Police station.

Meanwhile investigations have already been launched to establish the circumstances under which the man was killed.
