Popular city preacher Lucy Wa Ngunjiri has taken a bold stance against what she says is the surge in cultism practices in the Mt. Kenya region, directing her message at controversial singer Muigai Wa Njoroge during an address in Kiambu.

Wa Ngunjiri, known for her influential sermons, seized the moment to address the issue, particularly urging Muigai Wa Njoroge to cease recruiting fellow musicians into the now-infamous cult known as ‘Gwata Ndai.’

In her passionate address, the Itaha Ria Muoyo‘ radio gospel show host said:

“Muigai Wa Njoroge, your songs have been a source of education for many, but I implore you to refrain from encouraging female genital mutilation among women,” she said.

“I have chosen to bear the burden of this nation and pray for its people. I have chosen to stand up for the rights of orphans in our country.

There are cults and groups emerging that are defying the will of God. These groups, which continue to hinder our nation’s progress, shall not prevail.

I, too, faced adversity when I resisted FGM and found myself in a humble position as a house girl, but God has since uplifted me.”

Cultism practices have been a growing concern in various parts of Kenya, including the Mt. Kenya region.

On September 13, 2023, Muigai Wa Njoroge addressed allegations linking him to the struggles faced by fellow artist Dennis Mutara.

Controversial blogger Martha Mwihaki Hinga recently accused Muigai Wa Njoroge of being responsible for Dennis Mutara’s downfall.

The blogger claimed Mutara’s troubles began when Muigai allegedly introduced him to an alleged cult known as “Gwata Ndai,” of which Muigai is purportedly a senior member.

According to the allegations, Mutara became deeply involved with the cult, leading him to renounce Christianity and eventually abandon his music career.

Addressing other allegations, Muigai also refuted claims related to female genital mutilation (FGM) and urged people to refrain from spreading false information about him.

He stated that he has never been associated with such practices and that his family upholds Christian values.

“Another issue I wish to address is the unfounded accusations surrounding a story of female genital mutilation (FGM) directed at me. I come from a family with five sisters, and I have never heard my mother discuss such a topic with them.

Additionally, I am a husband to two wives and a father to five daughters, and I have never broached this subject with them either. In my view, this is a practice of the past, and it holds no relevance in my life,” Muigai said.

Muigai expressed his frustration over the allegations made against him and called on those making false claims to consider the impact on his family.

“I am deeply troubled by the way my name has been dragged through the mud in public, especially regarding the FGM allegations.

A popular preacher initially brought this issue to the public’s attention, and ever since, I have been unjustly accused.

I hold deep respect for my wives, and my children hold a special place in my heart. I implore those involved to cease this unwarranted shaming, particularly in front of my matured children,” he said.
