Reverend Julian Kyula had his congregation on edge during a Sunday, September 13 sermon after he shared a deeply personal account of the night armed intruders broke into his home while his wife was heavily pregnant.
Speaking from the church stage, the reverend recounted an incident he placed at roughly 12 years and nine months ago, calculating the timeline using his son’s recent birthday as a reference point.
He said the robbers, armed with machetes, entered the house and tried to harm his wife, who was then about five or six months pregnant.
“They put her on the floor, threatened her. I had to plead with them that she’s pregnant, please leave her alone,” he told the congregation.
Kyula addresses rumours about his marriage
The sermon came at a time when speculation about his marriage to Amanda Kyula had been circulating online.
Rather than address the rumours head-on, Kyula used the robbery story to make a broader point about protecting one’s family and to push back against what he described as a culture of character assassination.
He directed sharp words at bloggers, saying that in Kenya, someone’s reputation can be destroyed for as little as 20,000 shillings.
“You decide how you want to kill them, by reputation or by story,” he said.
He also shared a message he said came from a prophet friend based in London, dated 21 December 2025, which spoke of a coming “shaking” involving his family and the media, but promised he would be brought through it. A pastor read the message aloud to the congregation.
Kyula calls for a new generation of voices online
Beyond his personal story, Kyula used the moment to call out what he sees as a toxic online environment.
He mentioned knowing a family whose daughter took her own life because of cyberbullying, and urged a new generation of content creators, calling out individuals by name, to change the culture of blogging in Kenya.
“I release the oil of judgement online in the name of Jesus. You stop what you’re doing or God will stop you immediately,” he declared.
He added that while he had personally forgiven those he felt had wronged him, he warned that God had not.
