Genoa salvaged a 1-1 draw against Roma in the dying moments of their Serie A clash on Sunday, maintaining their strong start to the season.
Koni De Winter scored a dramatic equalizer in the sixth minute of stoppage time at a full Stadio Luigi Ferraris, denying Roma their first win of the campaign.
Roma seemed set for victory when Artem Dovbyk scored in the 37th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Niccolò Pisilli’s effort that was initially saved by Pierluigi Gollini.
De Winter’s goal, his first in Serie A, ensured Genoa’s second late draw of the season, following their surprise draw with champions Inter Milan in their opener.
Genoa sits ninth with five points, level with AC Milan, who defeated Venezia on Saturday, and two points ahead of 15th-placed Roma.
Later, Inter will have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot as they travel to Monza before their Champions League match against Manchester City on Wednesday.
Atalanta, who will host Arsenal on Thursday, will face Fiorentina in Bergamo, while Napoli, with Romelu Lukaku, will play at Cagliari, where Lukaku experienced racist abuse in 2019.
