The video of a church elder collapsing while addressing congregants has gained significant attention on social media. Sadly, it has been revealed that the elder collapsed due to a heart attack and subsequently passed away.
The incident occurred in Ruiru on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
The elder, Rtd Elder Eng Kenneth Kungu Wainaina, was in the midst of reminding the congregation about the church’s vision when he suddenly stopped speaking and collapsed. It’s a poignant reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of health awareness, even in seemingly routine moments.
“We came to this place in the year 2005 on June 19. We are only one month less than 19 years,” the elder opened in the 1-minute 24-second clip.
Just before he fainted, a woman was heard screaming in the background, as other church leaders who were at the podium rushed to hold him.
On May 24, the elder’s family published an obituary on Google indicating that he was aged 67 years old at the time of his demise.
He was born in 1957.
“With deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will, we the family announce the passing of Rtd. Elder Eng. Kenneth Kungu Wainaina on 19th May 2024,” the obituary read in part.
According to the Mayo Clinic, a heart attack occurs when an artery that sends blood and oxygen to the heart is blocked.
“Fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits build up over time, forming plaques in the heart’s arteries. If a plaque ruptures, a blood clot can form. The clot can block arteries, causing a heart attack. During a heart attack, a lack of blood flow causes the tissue in the heart muscle to die,” the clinic adds.
Symptoms of a heart attack include chest pain that may feel like pressure, tightness, pain, squeezing or aching, pain or discomfort that spreads to the shoulder, arm, back, neck, jaw, teeth or sometimes the upper belly, cold sweat and fatigue.
Others are heartburn or indigestion, lightheadedness or sudden dizziness, nausea and shortness of breath.
