Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday arrived in Kenya on a working visit to shore up support for Moscow, the fourth such visit to Africa over the past year amid a year-long war with Ukraine.
Moscow’s top diplomat is expected to meet Kenyan government officials as part of a charm offensive on the continent to shore up ties following isolation and crippling sanctions imposed by Western countries.
The unannounced visit to Kenya follows similar trips to South Africa, Eswatini, Angola and Eritrea in January and Mali, Mauritania and Sudan a month later.
“Happy to see Minister Lavrov in friendly Kenya,” Russian Embassy in Nairobi tweeted on Monday.
