Ruth Odinga, the Kisumu County Women Representative and sister to the late Raila Odinga and Oburu Odinga, has spoken just a day after the new leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party was ratified.
Through a post on Facebook on Friday, November 14, 2025, Ruth started by saluting her brother Oburu Odinga.
“Congratulations Hon. Dr. Oburu Oginga, on assuming the mantle of Party Leader for ODM. May your wisdom ignite a new spirit of purpose in the party and across the nation,” Ruth Odinga wrote on Facebook.

ODM steps into a new chapter
Ruth also shared her excitement over her own swearing-in as Deputy Organising Secretary during the Special Session of the ODM National Governing Council held in Mombasa yesterday.
She said, “With the confirmation of Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga as our new Party Leader, deputised by Governor Abdulswammad Shariff Nassir, Governor Paul Simba Arati, and Senator Godfrey Osotsi, ODM has firmly stepped into a new chapter.
“We have shed the ‘orphan’ tag that followed the passing of our founding Party Leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga. Today, we stand united, organised, and ready for the future.”
Ruth took time to congratulate other newly confirmed officials in the party, including Governor Gladys Wanga as National Chairperson, Hon. Otiende Amollo and Hon. John Ariko as Deputy National Chairpersons, Governor Ahmed Abdullahi as National Organising Secretary, and Hon. Rozaah Buyu as Secretary for Political Affairs.

She expressed confidence that the new leadership will continue to uphold ODM’s core values of justice, equity, and good governance.
Ruth calls for unity
In her message, Ruth emphasised that the new leadership represents a fresh start for ODM, signalling both unity and a clear direction ahead.
She highlighted the importance of working together to strengthen the party’s structures and reconnect with Kenyans at the grassroots level.
The Orange Democratic Movement has now officially marked a transition period, with the new leadership tasked with guiding the party toward the 2027 general elections and beyond.

Ruth Odinga’s congratulatory message reflects the optimism and resolve shared by the party as it enters this new phase.
With Oburu Odinga at the helm, ODM supporters and leaders alike are looking forward to a period of stability, growth, and renewed political purpose across the nation.
