Fresh details have emerged about a condolence call from President William Ruto to the family of the late blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang’, whose controversial death remains the subject of a high-profile murder investigation.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the call, Meshack Ojwang’, father to the deceased, revealed that the Head of State personally reached out to offer his sympathies and pledged KSh 2 million to support the grieving family.

“Namshukuru Rais kwa kuchukua ndugu yangu. Alichagua kuchukua mzigo huu kama wake… akasema pole kwa simu yangu,” Meshack recounted, describing the moment the President called.

The call came a day after the family concluded the Luo cultural mourning rite known as Tero Yuak, held in Albert’s honour. According to the family, the President not only offered financial support but also assured them of his administration’s commitment to pursuing justice.

“Kutoka hapo ana kuendelea mbele tunamtegemea kuendelea mbele… nimekuja kuletea ujumbe wa kifo na bado tunalia,” Meshack added, highlighting the family’s continued grief and hope for justice.

In the meantime, the outpouring of support continues. The Homa Bay County Government has commenced construction of a two-bedroom house for the bereaved family, part of ongoing community efforts to stand in solidarity with them.

Governor Gladys Wanga, who visited the family, reiterated the county’s call for swift and decisive justice.

“We are very sad, as a family and as a people. We are calling for justice for Albert—quick justice, not just words, but action. In Albert’s case, let anyone who was involved be held accountable.”

Albert Ojwang’, the only son of Meshack Ojwang’, died on June 7, just hours after he was reportedly arrested at his home in Homa Bay County. Investigations into the circumstances of his death are ongoing.
