Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the senator warned that under Ruto’s continued leadership, Kenya risks becoming a failed state.
The senator referenced to a video where the head of state boldly proclaimed himself the most accomplished leader Kenya has ever had, citing that he has the combined attributes of his predecessors.
“I have Jomo Kenyatta’s courage, Moi’s understanding, Kibaki’s education, and the development plan I shared with Uhuru. With that combination, I have no excuse but to transform the nation,” Ruto stated at State House on August 4, 2025.
In response, Omtatah questioned why the president did not boast of possessing integrity throughout his political career.
“If you look at the Constitution, Article 73 talks of suitability, Article 99 talks of qualifications. He’s talking of qualifications, not suitability. And I’m very happy he didn’t talk about integrity,” he noted.
“Look at the attributes he gave himself, he’s just saying he’s been to school and in Parliament. What’s his track record in Parliament, as a minister, and as a president?”
The senator painted a grim picture of the country’s future under Ruto’s stewardship citing that “I agree with him, if he’s allowed to lead, we shall not recognize Kenya. It will be a basket case. It will be dead and gone.”
Omtatah also criticized the president’s rhetoric, saying it reflects a dangerous form of self-glorification.
“He’s a man who serves himself. Look at the ego he portrays, narcissism that comes from his mouth, self-worship, that’s a sick man.”
He went on to suggest that Ruto lacks the humility required for effective leadership.
“He thinks he’s the best thing that God created on this earth. He is not. We’re all made in the image and likeness of God. That’s a man who cannot lead, only to be led.”
The outspoken senator’s remarks come amid growing political tensions and public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of economic challenges and governance issues.
