President William Ruto has dismissed the idea of calling an election due to the current crisis. During a roundtable with the media at State House Nairobi, Ruto stated that the Constitution does not mandate an election under such circumstances.
“There is no provision for an election. Whatever we do, we must keep it within the parameters of the rule of law,” he said.
He added that the events of the last two weeks cannot justify any disregard of the Constitution.
“We will be marching towards anarchy,” he maintained.
Ruto assured that he will not be reckless in handling the country’s current situation.
“There will be a cut down on many things. Maybe we will ban harambees to stop any demonstration on opulence and cut down on allowances,” he explained.
