Ruto orders gates open for all at Moi stadium ahead of speech

President William Ruto on Thursday ordered that the gates of Moi Stadium in Embu to be opened to allow those who had been locked out to enter

The gates at the stadium were opened as early as 4am to allow members of the public settle down ahead of the celebrations.

The gates were however locked after the stadium was filled to capacity.

The President however noted that a large number of Kenyans had been locked out and ordered that they be allowed to enter and join the rest of the people inside the stadium.

“Before I can say the few words I have , I request those at the gates to open them there are a lot of people outside to enter so that we can celebrate together with them,” he said.

“People at the gate please open for all the other people who are outside so that they can come and participate in this great moment of celebration,” he repeated.

His announcement was me with cheers from the crowds as the gates were opened and those who had been locked out were seen entering the stadium in their numbers.

At least 10,000 people are attending  Kenya’s 60th Madaraka celebrations in Embu County including international dignitaries.

This is Ruto’s first Madaraka Day celebrations since he was sworn in as President last year.

Many Kenyans have big expectations from President Ruto on this day.
