President William Ruto reaffirmed his dedication to conducting thorough scrutiny in the selection of his new cabinet following the recent dismissal of his Cabinet Secretaries.
Addressing a church congregation in Nyandarua County on Sunday, Ruto emphasized his commitment to appointing a competent team to serve in his administration. He stressed the importance of assembling a skilled leadership that would assist in fulfilling the ambitious pledges he made to the Kenyan people.
“Pray for me that I get employees who will help me to actualize the promises I gave you. You want me to build a new government that will unite the entire nation?” he posed to the crowd.
“I will plan slowly I see who will help me. Hasn’t it been said that some of them were from Nyeri, others Kiambu, Murang’a. Is there any problem if one of them comes from Eldoret?”
On July 11, Ruto dismissed the Attorney General and all 21 Cabinet Secretaries, with the exception of Prime Cabinet CS Musalia Mudavadi. President Ruto stated that he decided to dissolve his Cabinet after careful consideration, listening closely to the voices of Kenyans, and conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the Cabinet’s performance, achievements, and challenges.
However, online, Kenyans have criticized Ruto for retaining the Prime CS, citing concerns over the office’s constitutional validity.
As pressure mounts on Ruto to form a new team, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has advised against appointing Cabinet Secretaries who display pride, similar to the previous team.
Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet on Saturday, Gachagua emphasized the importance of new CSs prioritizing the interests of Kenyans to bolster the country’s economy. He also stressed the need for them to refrain from engaging in politics and instead focus on assisting the president in delivering on his campaign promises.
