Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has urged President William Ruto to minimize his ‘car roof politics’ and focus on working from his office.

This after President Ruto was hit by a flying shoe while addressing a public rally atop his car in Migori County on Sunday, as he wooed the crowds on how he plans to reduce the cost of living.

Reacting to the incident, Senator Nyutu told Citizen TV on Monday that the public appearances while speaking from his car’s sunroof pose a threat to President Ruto’s security.

He opined that President Ruto should instead focus on anchoring his feet in his office and work on his ambitious reforms.

“The president is the symbol of unity and anything happening to him will affect the nation in a big way and we pray that such an incident does not happen again,” Senator Nyutu noted.

“He needs to reduce car roof appearances because it makes it complicated for his security to ensure that he is secure from the crowds. Stick to the office, work, develop policies so that we feel him through the implementation of projects.”

The legislator added that the frequent car roof appearances continue to puncture the image of the president’s office, as he will easily be despised by the public.

“The president also needs to work on this because when you see him leading the song ‘Kasongo’, the stature of that office also gets affected,” Nyutu said.

He was referring to the new ‘Kasongo’ moniker that Kenyans online christened him across social media platforms to mock his leadership style.

President Ruto has welcomed the moniker, saying it is good and he harbors no bitterness with it.

Meanwhile, three suspects linked to the shoe-throwing incident have been arrested.

A security officer, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that more suspects are being pursued.

He added that preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been politically motivated and possibly premeditated ahead of the President’s visit.
