President William Ruto has assured that the government will acquire land to resettle the flood victims in Mai Mahiu by the end of June. Speaking during the National Akorino Conference in Nakuru, Ruto stated that the government is actively searching for suitable land for the victims and expects to finalize the process in the coming days.
Addressing concerns raised by the victims regarding government inaction, Ruto emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise to acquire the land and provide a safe settlement for those affected.
“When we had that tragedy, I sent my deputy when we had a funeral because I had more than 2o heads of state who came to Kenya,” he said.
” I accepted that we shall find land and build them new houses, I also want to say it myself so that it is known that it is the position of the Kenyan government,” he said.
The Mai Mahiu tragic incident claimed the lives of 61 individuals while some are still missing.
During the funeral on May 9, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced that the government had allocated Sh300 million for house construction for the Mai Mahiu flood victims.
