President William Ruto on Monday officially opened Lenana School primary, to cater for students around Ng’ando area in Dagoretti South constituency.
Speaking during the ceremony, Ruto said the institution was a promise he made four years ago when Precious Talent School collapsed.
“This school was purposely built by the government to help children around this area. I was here four years ago when we lost our students in a private school tragedy. I am now fulfilling the promise I made then,” Ruto said.
The president said so far his government has built 22 classrooms and at least 1300 students have already joined the school.
He said the classrooms will accommodate students from Grades 1 to 4, and there are plans to build 24 more classrooms to accommodate the other grades.
“I will personally make sure that I build the remaining 24 classrooms and also buy desks for them and the other nine classrooms that I understand don’t have desks. Together with your area MP (John Kiarie) we are committed to ensure that this school is complete,” Ruto added.
He also excited parents and students when he announced that he will buy each student full school uniform, including shoes.
“I want the leadership of the school to find uniform makers to come here and take measurements for every student who comes to this school. I will pay for each student’s uniform,” Ruto announced amid the excitement.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu told the president that Ksh.10M is ready to start construction of more classrooms and ablution blocks.
