The newly appointed judges of the High Court are currently awaiting their swearing-in ceremony at State House. As per communication from the Judiciary on Tuesday morning, the 20 individuals were preparing for the event as early as 6:40 am.
In a statement, the Judiciary announced, “The 20 persons recommended by the Judicial Service Commission for appointment as Judges of the High Court are preparing and robing for their swearing-in at State House this morning.”
The list of appointees includes Moses Ado Otieno, Alice Chepngetich Bett Soi, Benjamin Mwikya Musyoka, John Lolwatan Tamar, Francis Weche Andayi, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar, Wendy Kagendo Micheni, Emily Onyando Ominde, Helene Rafaela Namisi, Alexander Muasya Muteti, Julius Mukut Nangea, Benjamin Kimani Njoroge, Caroline Jepyegen Kendagor, Stephen Nzisi Mbungi, Linus Poghon Kassan, Noel Onditi Adagi Inziani, Tabitha Ouya Wanyama, Rhoda Cherotich Ruto, and Joe Omido Mkutu.
These appointments were made official through a Gazette notice dated May 9, following the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission to President William Ruto after the conclusion of the vetting process.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint… to be Judges of the High Court of Kenya,” the notice read.
On October 13, 2023, the Judicial Commission posted an advertisement for 20 openings in the Office of Judge of the High Court.
After the application period ended, it had 305 applications in total and had shortlisted 100 applicants,95 candidates were interviewed by JSC during selection interviews that took place between April 3, 2024, and May 3, 2024.
Four of the applicants withdrew, and Winfridah Boyani Mokaya was named Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
