Nominated MP John Mbadi claims that President William Ruto’s four-day visit to the Nyanza region was solely to sell the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party agenda and not to spur development, as previously stated.

According to the legislator, the projects that President Ruto appeared to launch were already in the works under the previous administration, and his visit to the region was purely political.

“I believe that the President’s visit was purely to sell the UDA agenda. It had nothing to do with development. There is nothing new that Ruto brought to Nyanza let it go on record,” said Mbadi.

“All those things that he was claiming to launch had been launched during President Kibaki’s time. What were are waiting for is for them to be completed so that they could be commissioned. Launching and commissioning are different. You cannot launch a project twice.”

The nominated MP was speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show on Thursday.

He then poked holes in the launch of the Sindo-Magunga road in Suba South, Homa Bay County, claiming that the road had stalled because the contractor had not been paid.

“One of the projects is in the constituency I represent. The so-called Sindo-Magunga meter road. It was started in September 2021. Ksh.316 million was released to the contractor to do 14 kilometres. He has done all the earthworks what is remaining is for the completion,” he said.

“He’s been demanding for payment so that he continues with the work. The contractor is not on sight even after the contractor left. Give this contractor money to complete the work and come commission the road. Don’t come and play politics with our people.”

During his visit to the region President Ruto also launched UDA offices in Homa Bay town.

He officiated the ground breaking of projects on road development, blue economy and information and communication technology sectors.
