Former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa criticized President William Ruto’s plan to hold an X-Space meeting with Gen Zs, describing it as ill-advised. Speaking on Friday, Kirwa emphasized that such an engagement would be a “big mistake.” He further stated that the President should refrain from inserting himself into every issue facing the country, asserting that not every challenge can be solved by the Head of State alone.
“What I want to advise the President is to refrain from being at the forefront of every fire. He cannot solve all the problems of Kenya. The meeting with Gen Z is ill-advised. It is a big mistake,” he said.
The former minister, however, advised the president to figure out a way the government can incorporate youths into its organs.
Kirwa said after this has been done, the President should only come in when called upon by the state organs.
“What he should have done is to see how various organs of government can interface with these young people and at the right time he comes in when he is called upon to do so,” he said.
Kirwa’s remarks come ahead of President William Ruto’s planned talks with the youth.
Ruto will Friday host his inaugural X-Space Conversation with the youth.
The Cabinet is scheduled to join the Head of State as he hosts the Space.
“All Kenyans are welcome to contribute to this dialogue as part of our collective effort to foster national renewal and create a better Kenya for all,” a despatch from the Cabinet Office, Executive Office of the President said.
In a statement shared by the State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, the President will engage the youths on the issues raised.
The X Space will take place from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Ruto had earlier on called for a meeting with the leaders of Gen Zs at State House but they declined.
