Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Monday flagged off 10 new skip loaders and skips to boost garbage collection within the county.
During the flag-off at City Hall, Sakaja said that the initiative complements his ambitious aim of cleaning the city while also expressing confidence that the trucks will aid the county in achieving its goal.
“This equipment will go a long way to ensuring garbage is collected and we keep our environment clean,” said Sakaja.
Each skip loader will be assigned five skips (containers) bringing the total number of skips to 50 making it the largest procured number in recent years.
The skips will mainly be stationed in markets and high garbage points across the county and will be part of equipment procured for the Green Nairobi sector.
So far 27 tippers have been delivered and 24 refuse compactors are expected early next year.
Meanwhile, about 2,500 youth, known as the Green Army, have been hired to clean the city and unblock drainages.
Another 1,500 youth are expected to be hired to join the Green Army team.
