Salt manufacturer Kensalt has announced that salt prices will go up from April 15, 2023, over a high cost of production.

In a statement. Kensalt said that hike was aimed at sustaining the supply of the important commodity to meet the country’s demand.

“We wish to inform you that due to a continuous rise in the cost of production, we have been forced to increase our prices by Ksh1,000 per ton plus VAT,” Kensalt General Manager Arpan Roy said in a notice on Friday to consumers.

Kensalt is one of the largest Salt manufacturing units in East Africa, based in Mombasa, Kenya.

It is estimated that Kensalt controls 75 percent of the salt market in Kenya and 50 percent in Uganda.

This is the first time in several years that salt prices are increasing in the country.
