Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter, Saumu Mbuvi, has called on parents to teach their sons how to respect women.
She said she plans to teach her daughters how to handle licensed guns for self-protection in a post on Wednesday, February, 2026. Her comments come amid growing concern over the safety of women and children.
“Must women always live in fear, even innocent kids? Enough of the killings,” Saumu said.
She emphasised that young girls should be prepared to protect themselves in dangerous situations. Her message was a call for respect for women to start at home, and self-defence is a vital skill.
Saumu warned that teaching respect and self-protection are both critical lessons. She said parents have a role in shaping responsible young men while empowering girls.
“Teach your sons how to respect women because I’m going to teach my daughters how to handle a licensed gun,” she stated.
Single mothers and strength
Earlier, Saumu praised single mothers for their courage. She noted that raising children alone while rebuilding one’s life requires great determination.
“When you see any single mother out there doing it all by herself… while rebuilding herself, give her flowers,” she said.
She highlighted that single mothers carry many responsibilities at the same time.
“We wear so many hats,” Saumu said, pointing to the emotional, financial, and personal demands of raising children alone. She added that society often overlooks these efforts.
According to Saumu, single mothers deserve respect and recognition. She urged people to change the way society views women raising children alone. She said their strength and ability to manage multiple roles should be celebrated, not criticised.
Saumu’s message combined the need for respect, safety, and recognition.
