Butula High School rugby head coach Shimenga Livondo says Koyonzo High School is still the team to beat in rugby sevens in this year’s School Games.
Shimenga said the fact that Koyonzo has retained most of their key players presents the strongest challenge to their title ambitions.
“They have a very good team that will cause problems for many sides but we have prepared well enough to handle them. While they still have key players in their team we are determined to beat them,” said Shimenga.
While Koyonzo edged Butula 31-0 to lift their maiden national title last year in the finals played in Nakuru, Shimenga who previously coached St Peters Mumias said they are well prepared to tackle their rivals in this year’s competition.
“From the tournament and friendly matches, we have participated in so far I am impressed with the team’s progress. We are heading in the right direction as a team and I am sure we will be ready for the competitions,” added Shimenga.
The veteran tactician went on to congratulate Kabras RFC for retaining their Kenya Cup title this season saying their success is down to the good structures set by the club management as well as commitment from the players.
“They have very good structures set by the club management which is being run professionally and thus I am not surprised that they will dominate rugby for so long. Their recruitment structure is also very good they leave no room for mediocrity,” he added.
