A senior Senate delegation, headed by Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye, is currently in Busia County to evaluate its readiness for the upcoming fourth Senate ‘Mashinani’ Sittings. The county is set to host various sessions, including plenary and committee meetings, from September 23 to 27 next month.
During their visit, the Senate team is inspecting essential facilities, including the Assembly chamber designated for the plenary sittings. They were welcomed by Busia County Assembly Speaker Fredrick Wafula and Acting Clerk Gabriel Arambo.
“The outcome that we want to make sure that this Senate Mashinani works,” speaker Wafula said.
The senate team, alongside their Busia county assembly counterpart, are assessing key facilities to ensure they are fit and in good condition to host the Senators.
In the Chamber, the team is checking the condition and number of seats, lighting, lavatories, sound system, access to the public and holding rooms for CSs who will be appearing before the senate plenary.
“Colleagues, I want you to see this as our senate chambers and raise any concerns that you might have,” Nyegenye said.
The team is also evaluating the condition of several offices designated for Speaker Amason Kingi, House leaders, Senators, and senior Senate staff. Subsequently, they will tour various hotels in the county to assess their readiness and safety for hosting Senators.
This marks the fourth Senate sitting to take place outside the capital, Nairobi, known as Senate Mashinani. Last year, the Senate convened in Turkana County, while the first and second sittings outside Nairobi were held in Uasin Gishu and Kitui, respectively.
