Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has reiterated his call for all state officers to undergo mandatory lifestyle audits. Speaking in the Senate on July 3, 2024, he emphasized that recent protests and public demands highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive wealth audit.
Cherargei highlighted concerns from demonstrators about lawmakers’ wealth accumulation amid the government’s financial challenges. He also pointed out instances where public officials have openly displayed their wealth, contrasting it with the economic struggles faced by many Kenyans. Additionally, Cherargei questioned how political leaders can raise substantial funds in fundraisers while the country’s development remains inadequate.
“We must start doing lifestyle audits to all of us, state officers and all governors. Any person who is serving in a public office we must do lifestyle audit,” Cherargei stated.
“The reason Kenyans were on the streets is because they are wondering how can you contribute Ksh20 million in an harambee and yet they don’t even have a Ksh100,” Cherargei added.
