The Chief Executive Officer of Busia County’s Public Service Board, Truphena Eshibukule Omung’ala Akide, has been arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives.
Akide, a source at EACC told Citizen Digital, was apprehended at her home in Busia on Thursday for reportedly obstructing EACC from probing the devolved unit.
She was apprehended and escorted to EACC Bungoma Regional Offices where she is currently being held.
“Akide refused to comply with orders of the Commission to avail evidentiary material being official documents required by the Commission to facilitate investigations into allegations of corruption, abuse of office and illegal recruitments in the County Government of Bungoma,” said the source.
“The law prohibits any attempt by any person to obstruct lawful investigations, in any manner, including the failure to avail required documents, as is in this case.”
The EACC source added that this is not the first time that Busia County officials have reportedly interfered with the agency’s investigations.
“The Commission is taking action against those involved in the schemes to cover malpractices,” said the source.
