Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has criticized President William Ruto’s decision to reappoint some individuals from his previous Cabinet, suggesting that it reflects confusion within his government.
Speaking on Monday, Mbui argued that the nomination of 11 new Cabinet Secretaries should have involved public input, given the widespread calls for effective leadership. He also contended that the reappointment of figures from a discredited cabinet undermines confidence in Ruto’s leadership and suggests potential unfitness for office.
“The president has the option of reshuffling and could have also dismissed part of the Cabinet but he made the decision himself that he had dismissed everybody so basically when he returns people to the same dockets it shows there is serious confusion in that regard,” he said on Citien TV’s Daybreak show.
“That does not give confidence to Kenyans about his ability to run the affairs of the state.”
The legislator further argued that Ruto should have opted to welcome applications from interested members of the public and compile a team of his preference after the exercise.
“The president had the opportunity to bring in professionals. The Gen Z have said do not appoint friends and supporters, invest in professionals,” he said.
Following weeks of youth-led anti-government protests, President William Ruto has announced the first batch of new Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) to replace those he dismissed.
In a press address at State House on Friday, Ruto stated that the 11 nominations, including the Attorney General, were made after consultations across the political spectrum to restore peace and stability in the country.
The new list includes six former CSs who are making a comeback in different ministries. The four who retain their previous roles are:
– Prof. Kithure Kindiki (Interior and National Administration)
– Aden Duale(Defence)
– Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works, Urban Development, and Housing)
– Soipan Tuya(Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry)
