Five-time World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will contest the 100m at the Kip Keino Classic at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya on May 13th.
The Jamaican sprint legend, Olympics & world champion confirmed she will defend 100m women’s race title in Kenya’s capital-Nairobi after competing at Botswana Golden Grand in April this year.
“Hey guys,I’m coming back to Nairobi in May to run in 100m race.Last year was super fantastic as Kasarani Stadium was filled with super crowd and the background music made the atmosphere electrifying so make sure people you have your tickets in advance and show up in large numbers so that we have some fun again and enjoy to the fullest like we did last time.See you” she said jovially in a viral video which has been shared on social media platforms
On April 29th, Fraser-Pryce will open her season at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix before, two weeks later, returning to the meet where, last year, she opened her season with a blistering 10.67.
That race started a phenomenal season for the three-time Olympic champion which saw her produce a record seven times faster than 10.70 including 10.67 to win her fifth World 100m title in Eugene in July.
Meeting director Barnaba Korir said that the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics 100m champion will once again start her season in Africa where the world should expect fast times.
“We are glad to have Fraser-Pryce back at the Kip Keino Classic. It shows the trust and love some of the world’s leading stars have for this country,” stated Korir.
“We shall in the coming weeks issue an elaborate program and some of the top athletes who will be gracing this year’s event. We have big surprises for the country,” he added.
Last year, she dominated the race winning it comfortably with a bang to get back on top of the list as this victory provided a monumental boost to her chances in other global championships that subsequently followed.
US sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson withdrew from the competition and did not appear for the race while Christine Mboma, another favorite pulled out of the competition after suffering an injury leaving the 35 year-old to show class and win the race in style.
