Detectives arrested two people after discovering the body of an unidentified woman, cut up into 18 pieces and stashed in a septic tank in Kampala’s Makindye neighborhood.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, two people are in lawful custody: a land lady on whose property the body was discovered and a tenant who could not account for bloodstains inside his room.

“We have arrested the prime suspects, they are currently detained at Katwe Police Station as investigations into the matter continue,” the police spokesperson said

Local Ugandan media reported seeing police officers recover a chopped torso, as well as some other body parts, leading them to believe the victims were decapitated before the body was stashed.

As the search entered its second day, police working with the fire department recovered the head, but not the nose or ears, which had been hidden inside a whisky bottle buried some distance from the house.

The victim’s private parts were missing, leading to speculation that the murder-most-foul, may have been a ritual. Some of the body parts were in a gunny bag, while others were wrapped in a red jacket which has been traced to the main suspect.

Although the exact circumstances are unknown, neighbors reported hearing a scuffle a week before the body was discovered. They claimed they thought it was just a normal couple’s squabble.

The body of the woman was discovered after curious residents reported a horrible stench coming from the septic tank, which led to the discovery of human body parts floating in the tank.

The remains of the woman were moved to the city morgue in Mulago pending an autopsy and identification.
