Police are looking for a 23-year-old woman who abandoned a one-month-old bay at a hotel in Kapsabet town in Nandi County after a brief meeting with her lover.
The woman identified as Sharon Jepkemboi abandoned the infant after tricking the 34-year-old man, who works at Mudete Tea factory, to meet her in Kapsabet town.
Abel Sang intimated to K24 Digital that Jepkemboi had called to inform him that their baby was unwell and needed urgent medical attention.
Sang agreed to meet his wife at Namgoi Centre, a nearby shopping centre just 2 kilometres from Kapsabet town, where they decided to have tea at Farmers Hotel as they discussed the health of the baby.
Moments later, the woman excused herself to answer a call of nature before disappearing into thin air. Never to return.
“He called me that the bay was unwell and she wanted me to take her to hospital. But after engaging her and assessing the health status of the kid, she was well. She just wanted to use the trick and leave me with the baby,” Sang said.
The woman has been staying at Mosoriot Centre in the Chesumei constituency although her original home is Barsombe in Soy constituency, Uasin-Gishu.
“I just served them tea and chapati and shortly the lady said she wanted to excuse herself for a short call and never came back,” Nancy Koech, hotel owner, narrated.
The man was left stranded in the hotel not knowing what to do.
With the help of locals, Sang proceeded to Kapsabey Police Station, where he reported the matter with a view of reuniting the newborn baby with the mother.
By the time of going to press, the man was still stranded at Kapsabet Police Station with baby.
The woman, in a shirt hair, was dressed in a black skirt, pink blouse and black jacket. She was also carrying a black handbag at the time of the incident.
