Police are holding a woman over the murder of her husband in Kaiti, Makueni county.

Police reports indicate that Veronica Mutisya hacked her husband to death using a panga after a domestic wrangle on Friday, March 24.
Hacked with machete

The deceased’s brother, who reported the incident to the police, said Veronica slashed her husband’s legs with a machete after a disagreement over an undisclosed matter.

The victim, who had lost a lot of blood, was rushed to Mukuyuni sub-county hospital where he was given first aid and later referred to Makueni Referral Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

It’s alleged that Veronica planted a bottle of poison at the scene of the crime to cover up her actions with claims that the man took his own life.

Area chief Francis Kimeu confirmed the incident, saying the man was threatening his wife with a panga before the woman snatched it and used it to attack him.

“The two had a family conflict where the wife took the machete the husband was threatening her with and used it to attack him,” Kimeu said.

Police are currently interrogating the suspect and four other witnesses who were present during the incident.

Homicide detectives visited the scene and collected exhibits which include the murder weapon and the bottle of poison as investigations into the incident continue.
