Shujaa co-captain Vincent Onyala has expressed frustration after the team’s failure to travel for the International Dubai Invitational tournament slated for this weekend.
The Kenya Rugby Union on Thursday released a statement saying “logistical challenges” halted Kenya’s trip to Dubai.
“It was a speculation; probably an anticipation of how the lionesses have been operating in previous tournaments in Dubai. As you can see, Lionesses had the opportunity to be a core side but you find the logistics in their travels we so challenging.
“At some point they could arrive maybe an hour to the game, that’s why they have failed to gain a core team status for that while. They could hardly get to a game in time, at some point they could go to a game without warming up,” regretted Onyala.

Onyala now says things will be hard to come by for Shujaa after being relegated from the HSBC World Rugby Sevens series last season.
“With Kenya Sevens relegated from the series, funding becomes a problem so prior planning becomes a big issue and that’s how you find that we didn’t have our tournament confirmed,” he noted.
According to the KCB playmaker, their focus now turns to preparations for the upcoming Challenger Series in January 2024.
