A family in Siaya County has been rendered homeless after their house was torched due to a land dispute in Uhete village, Nyadorera ‘A’ sub-location, on Saturday night. Bernard Omondi lost property worth thousands of shillings when his grass-thatched house was set ablaze.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that Omondi informed the police at the Nyadorera police post about the incident. He stated that around 8 pm, his house caught fire and burned down completely. While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, Omondi suspects a woman in his family, who had previously threatened to burn the house over a long-standing family land dispute.
Kimaiyo confirmed that assorted household goods worth approximately Ksh. 20,000 were destroyed in the inferno. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. The police visited the scene, processed, and documented it, and investigations into the matter have begun.
