Residents in Uriri, Siaya County have protested the ongoing power outage in the area.

locals reported experiencing a blackout for the past three months.

The residents took to the streets in Gem Wagai, stating that the only transformer serving the area was removed by Kenya Power engineers.

Carrying placards, they urged the power supplier to restore electricity in the area.

They also mentioned that the lack of electricity has led to a rise in theft cases.

“We need electricity for our businesses and other uses at home. Our appliances have been lying idle for months now,” said Christine Achieng’.

Schools and public facilities such as health centers have also been affected. “We can no longer access key services from hospitals,” added Sandra Kachieng’.

Calling for swift action, residents noted that their numerous complaints to Kenya Power have yet to be addressed.
