Residents in Lieta sub-location in Rarieda, Siaya County have been filled with grief following the disappearance of a fisherman.’

The man, identified as James Nindo Obiero, was on a fishing expedition before he went missing.

His colleagues, led by Francis Odede, believe that the 67-year-old man was mauled to death by a crocodile.

“He had gone to check a fish trap at Kobuong’ beach only for his clothes to be found along the lakeside,” a resident said.

Area Assistant Chief Alfred Oyola said a search operation has been mounted in efforts to retrieve his body.

The joint operation is being conducted by police and officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
