According to the ODM Secretary General, goons had been deployed to attack him upon showing up at the Parliamentary Group meeting, saying that he had to prioritise his safety.
He claimed that ODM has adopted a culture of hiring youthful groups to cause havoc in party meetings whenever dissenting members like Sifuna show up.
“I could not attend that meeting. There are many planned party meetings, and they want you to attend their meetings so that you are attacked. They organize gangs to attack you. There were also gangs in Kilifi during the first meeting,” he said on Inooro FM.
“The same was also seen in Mombasa; there were gangs that were deployed to cause chaos.”
The legislator, who is among the leaders steering the rival Linda Mwananchi faction, said that he is being purged because he does not support ODM’s stance in backing President William Ruto’s 2027 presidential bid.
He argued that some leaders in the party are not genuine and are unwilling to solve the squabble with Sifuna’s camp.
“Our brothers are not genuine during these talks. Mama Ida Odinga has asked us that we solve the tensions within the party before holding these formal meetings,” he noted.
“We have no squabble with anyone, we wish them all the best, but the only thing that is causing divisions within ODM is some members supporting President Ruto for the 2027 elections. That is the only problem they have with me.”
He added that ODM’s founder, the late Raila Odinga, insisted that the party must form coalitions with like-minded partners, arguing that the Ruto-led faction lacks the fundamental principles necessary for amicable partnerships.
Sifuna, alongside Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and other dissenting ODM members have led the Linda Mwananchi faction that has toured the nation censuring President Ruto’s administration.
ODM’s meeting brought together almost 100 members of the party’s parliamentary group, 13 governors, and the National Executive Council (NEC).
