After persistent calls to address the hazard of dangerously low-hanging power lines along sections of Kiambu Road, residents are now relieved as Kenya Power officials have taken action to trim branches causing the safety risk.
Recent heavy rains in the capital have resulted in trees falling on major roads like Kiambu Road and State House Road, leading to some power lines being affected and endangering road users’ lives. Residents expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing operation, which has seen overgrown branches being chopped off.
Bodaboda operator Mike Muhia and other locals commended the initiative, urging the power supplier to extend its focus to city estates where similar safety concerns exist.
While appreciating the efforts along major highways, residents emphasized the need for such exercises to be conducted more frequently to ensure public safety.
“If this can be done in line with weather prediction reports, it will help avert further crisis,” said Martin Ongeri, a matatu driver.
