Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that he is facing impeachment challenges due to his candidness. Speaking after receiving special prayers from Bishop Mutwiri Nteere at MCK All Saints Church in Kinoru, Meru County, on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Gachagua asserted that those advocating for his ouster are reacting negatively to his truthfulness.
He argued that being straightforward as a leader often disturbs certain individuals, leading them to conspire to remove him from office. Nevertheless, Gachagua vowed to maintain his honesty regardless of the opposition he faces. “Mimi zile shida zote mnaona napitia ni kwa sababu ya kusema ukweli and I did not know that many people have a problem with the truth kwa sababu kuna watu wengi sana wako na shida ya kusema ukweli, sasa mimi niliumbwa hivo, Mungu amenifunza na kuniongoza kua nikisema ukweli na kwa hivyo katika harakati za uongozi sa ingine tukisimama na ukweli wengine hawapendi lakini tutaendelea tu kusimama na ukweli kwa sababu hio ndio Mungu anataka,” he said.
He also cautioned those plotting against him, stating that such actions would undermine the will of the people. Gachagua emphasized that he was elected alongside President William Ruto and urged detractors to consider the wishes of the electorate. “Let us not fall into the temptation of overturning the will of the people through other methods because people will not be happy when you overturn their will,” he stated. “Let us agree that the tenets of democracy say that you respect the will of the people because it is sovereign.”
Additionally, Gachagua called on the church to pray for President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, explaining that the ongoing political conflicts could distract the government from fulfilling its campaign promises. “It is my hope that sanity will prevail, we tone down on politics of division and we work for Kenyans. We were elected two years ago and we have not yet done the work that we promised to do,” he added.
