In an effort to bolster the stability of the country’s electrical network, Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions affecting six counties on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

This scheduled disruption is part of routine maintenance activities crucial for ensuring the reliability of the power supply grid.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Kenya Power clarified that the power interruptions are a necessary measure to carry out essential network maintenance.

The affected areas include specific regions in Machakos, Vihiga, Migori, Kilifi, Murang’a, and Laikipia counties.

Machakos County will see interruptions in Konza City and various adjacent locations, including the Administrative Police (AP) Camp, Highway Grill, Universal Briquettes, and more.

Vihiga County will experience disruptions in areas such as Kima Market, Coptic Hospital, and Ebusiralo, among others.

In Migori County, affected areas include Ikerege, Gamasisi, Nguku, and others. Kilifi County will witness interruptions in Vipingo Beach Properties, Utalii College, and several residential estates.

This announcement follows recent measures introduced by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to address the frequent national power outages experienced in the country.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir attributed the disruptions to the high demand for electricity, causing the western supply line to trip.

To alleviate this, Chirchir mentioned the implementation of load shedding as a proactive measure to prevent overloading and ensure a more stable power supply.

The move towards scheduled maintenance and strategic load shedding aims to mitigate the challenges rooted in the lack of investment in power generation and transmission infrastructure, as outlined by CS Chirchir.

These initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the resilience and efficiency of Kenya’s power grid.
