A teacher in Nyamira County is nursing injuries at a hospital in Ikonge after he was assaulted by the school principal for allegedly being late.

Vincent Onyancha said he was slapped and kicked in front of his students.

Onyancha said, “I was a little late to school and the principal came in to class and beat me while I was teaching. He kicked me and slapped me, then dragged me to his office and continued to descend on me with blows.”

Addressing journalists in Ikonge, officials from Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET)condemned the incident and called on the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to take legal action against the principal, adding that teachers would boycott work in protest if no action is taken.

The TSC Director in Nyamira County, Erick Magak, confirmed receipt of the case, and said an investigation has been launched.
