Sofapaka finally ended their three-game losing streak in assertive fashion by dispatching giant-killers Mathare United 1-0 in an exciting Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League match at Kasarani yesterday.
The goal that made all the difference came through second half substitute Alen Imbusia in the 53rd minute moments after Sofapaka had spurned several scoring chances.
Sofapaka coach David Ouma opted to rest the likes of Stanely Omondi, Evans Maliachi and Jacob Onyango but still got the results he wanted against a Mathare side that posted a shock 2-1 win over multiple champions Gor Mahia a week ago
Before the match, Batoto Ba Mungu had seemingly been groping in the dark after losing three straight fixtures against Kariobangi Sharks (2-0), Bidco United (2-0) and KCB (1-0) before finding their footing against a gritty Mathare side.
But this time round, the frontline of Rodgers Okoth, Stephen Okola and Sebastian Ikhekhai shone like a polished diamond while the rear weaved around Nixon Omondi, David Nshirimana and Baron Oketch did well not to expose goalkeeper Simon Masaka to forays by Mathare’s attackers.
Ouma was elated by the final outcome although he was quick to warn his charges against complacency.
“We have a young team that is hungry for success and is still work in progress. Its strength lies in teamwork and if it can continue playing like that we may find ourselves joining the bandwagon of team that will be contending for the title. There is no time to rest,” offered Ouma
