This morning, anti-riot police officers have set up roadblocks on all routes leading to State House Nairobi, in response to the planned nationwide protest. Vehicles and their occupants are undergoing screening and checks before being granted access, while others are being turned away.

A senior police officer familiar with today’s deployment described it as routine and necessary to safeguard key government installations.

Elsewhere in Nairobi, city streets were notably quiet on Tuesday morning, with reduced traffic and closed businesses observed in areas like Adams Arcade and select shops in the CBD. What initially began as protests aimed at halting the passage of the Finance Bill 2024 has evolved into demands for President William Ruto’s resignation and a restructuring of the Kenya Kwanza government.

During a recent official visit to Nakuru county on Monday, President Ruto accused the Ford Foundation, a non-governmental organization, of providing funding for the ongoing anti-government protests.
