The Nigerian music industry is in mourning after budding singer Oju Ika lost his life following a violent robbery in Lagos.
Fellow artist Bolisco was the first to speak publicly about what happened, sharing his account of the terrifying ordeal that unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, 22 September. According to Bolisco, suspected robbers broke into a serviced apartment located along the Joke Ayo/Ikola Alagbado axis, targeting him and members of his team.
According to a report by Legit.ng, the attackers made off with mobile phones, gold chains and other valuables.
Oju Ika stabbed during raid
What began as a robbery quickly turned far more sinister. Oju Ika, described as an associate of Bolisco, was caught up in the violence when the suspected robbers turned on him. He sustained stab wounds during the attack and was rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, the young singer could not be saved and was confirmed dead. His passing has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s music community, with many mourning the loss of a talent who was still finding his footing in the industry.
Police launch investigation
The Lagos State Police Command has been notified of the incident and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities are working to piece together the full sequence of events and identify those responsible for the attack that claimed Oju Ika’s life.
