Ulinzi Starlets head coach Joseph Wambua Mwanza is confident they will retain the FKF Women’s Cup despite the tough competition from opponents.
The soldiers sailed through to the round of 16 after managing a slim 1-0 win over Division One side Gusii Starlets in a Round 32 match at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
The loan goal was scored by new signing Fasila Adhiambo in the 44th minute.
Speaking, Wambua urged his charges to stay focused and maintain the winning streak.
“Our aim was to qualify for the round of 16 which we have achieved and the remaining part is to fight to the final and clinch the title. Our match against Gusii wasn’t easy considering that Gusii was playing at their backyard and had home fans’ advantage.
They were a strong side but experience from my players gave us the bragging rights,” he said.
Wambua is however delighted with his new signings saying they will play a big role in securing the FKF Women’s Cup and the Premier League title.
“My new players did a good job and I’m confident that they will continue with the same spirit. Seeing Fasila scoring gives me a lot of hope and I’m urging them to continue with the same spirit,” added Wambua.
To fuel their campaign, Ulinzi signed three new players. They are striker Fasila Adhiambo (Kangemi Ladies), Lavenda Akinyi (Wadadia) and goalie Judith Omondi (Kiber Soccer Ladies).
Elsewhere, FKF Women’s Premier League side Zetech Sparks harvested a huge 4-1 win against Bungoma Queens to secure a place in the next round as Vihiga Queens beat Kolwa Falcons 3-1 to proceed.
